The design for Lightfoot Market repurposes a grey-field site into a commercial retail center for the residents of King James County, Virginia. A Harris Teeter grocery store, Walgreens pharmacy, a restaurant pavilion and two additional retail buildings comprising 20,000 square feet will replace the failed outlet mall that currently occupies the site. The design assumes a contextual modern approach that relates to the region’s colonial vernacular. The facade is clad in layers of different colored bricks, which creates a pedestrian scale, though the use of clere story lighting at building entries establishes visual landmarks within the retail center.
