This 32-unit contemporary design located within the Greater 14th Street Historic District is formally composed and relates both to commercial buildings on former ‘Automobile Row’ and to historic apartment buildings to the west. The richly articulated 14th Street facade is topped by a prominent metal cornice which forms an iconic crown day and night. Large storefronts at the base of the seven-story building allow retail activity to contribute to the area’s commercial vitality. Two projecting bays of metal and glass are stitched together by an ornamental lattice of metal bands, set against colorful masonry facades. Along residential R Street, step-down massing integrates the building into its residential context.
