Associate Partners
Jack Devilbiss, AIA, LEED AP BD+C
Jack was initially drawn to architecture by the ability to have a creative impact on the built environment, a positive impact in the community, and the unique challenges presented by different project types. His 20 years of experience have given him the opportunity to see these areas of interest realized through an award-winning portfolio of successful projects. Over the course of his 16 years with B|HA, Jack has successfully led design teams on a wide variety of project types and scales including residential, retail, and commercial design. As an Associate Partner and Senior Team Leader at Bonstra | Haresign ARCHITECTS, Jack focuses on the adaptive use of existing apartment buildings within DC Historic Districts. Jack currently serves as the chair of the AIA | DC Advocacy Committee and has volunteered in various capacities with the Washington Architectural Foundation and the University of Maryland Real Estate Development Program.
John K. Edwards, Assoc. AIA, LEED AP BD+C
John brings 27 years of experience in the architectural profession. A native DC resident, John has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History from the University of Virginia, as well as an M.Arch. from the University of Maryland. Since joining B|HA in 2005, he continues to lead a diverse portfolio that includes historic renovations, new construction, adaptive-reuse conversions, and large-scale master planning projects. In addition to his promotion to Associate Partner, John offers an expert understanding of sustainable technologies and certification processes as the firm’s Senior Sustainable Design Leader. Currently, he is serving as an AIA nominee and team chair for the National Architectural Accrediting Board professional school accreditation teams, an active member of Lambda Alpha International-George Washington Chapter, the Washington Architectural Foundation, St. Mark’s Church Capitol Hill, Whitman-Walker Clinic, and the Capitol Hill Community Foundation.
Senior Associate
John Glenn, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, NCARB
John Glenn (not the astronaut) is Bonstra | Haresign ARCHITECTS’ Senior Associate with over 20 years of experience, largely focusing on urban infill and multi-family residential projects over the past 10 years. John came to the practice of Architecture in two ways; growing up in Cincinnati Ohio, he found himself drawn to building and design and his mom was an interior designer. John attended DePaul University in Chicago for undergrad, majoring in Theater Design. He cultivated a growing interest in Architecture and urban planning and earned his M.Arch. at Arizona State University. Prior to moving to DC in 2019, John had spent 12 years serving on planning board for the City of Phoenix as well as chairing several committees with AIA Arizona. John believes strongly in the concept of Citizen Architect; an Architect who uses their talents to serve and advocate for community. Currently, John serves on two AIA Virginia boards: Government Affairs, advocacy, and the Joint Legislative Committee reviewing state legislation and its impact on development and the A/E professions.
Associates
Richard Abendroth, AIA
Richard is an Associate at Bonstra | Haresign ARCHITECTS. Richard joined the B|HA team in 2017 after receiving his Bachelor of Architecture from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He was drawn to the firm because of the collaborative studio environment and felt it would facilitate broad exposure to the many facets of design, documentation, and construction. Richard is a great asset at the firm and has taken on leadership roles to facilitate advancement within the firm, including leading BIM learning sessions and heading up development of in-house digital fabrication and model-making lab. Richard feels that working in architecture allows him to contribute to a more well thought out and beautiful built environment and provides insight into the ways that we live and use resources and gives us the ability to suggest and test alternative futures. Notable projects that Richard has worked on include: 508 K Street NW, Washington DC, The Cadence, Arlington, VA, 850 Sligo Ave, Silver Spring MD, and 1 Hawaii Ave, Washington DC
Ronnie Ali, LEED AP
Ronnie is an Associate and Senior Project Team Leader and a LEED Accredited Professional at Bonstra | Haresign ARCHITECTS with over 22 years of in-depth experience in all phases of architectural design and construction process. Originally from Bangladesh, Ronnie earned his B.Arch from Bangladesh University of Engineering and M.Arch from Technology and Washington Alexandria Architecture Center, Virginia Tech (WAAC). Ronnie is well-versed in Class A high-rise design and construction. He has an expert understanding of building codes and regulations particularly related to the counties and cities of the Northern Virginia and DC market.
Eduardo J. Frontera Biamón, Assoc. AIA
Originally from Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, Eduardo has been with Bonstra | Haresign ARCHITECTS for more than five years since graduating with a Master of Architecture from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and Bachelor of Science in Architecture from The Catholic University of America. Since joining B|HA, Eduardo has focused on renovations, historic preservation, and multi-family projects. His previous focuses have included hospitality, educational and commercial. He is well-versed in working through historic approval processes and feasibility studies. Additionally, Eduardo has established himself as our go-to BIM expert and has been instrumental in the development and application of firm-wide BIM Standards and is a valuable resource to project teams.
Robert Kuentzel, AIA
Rob hails from New Jersey and is well-versed in working through large-scale mixed-use design projects. He graduated from the University of Maryland School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation with an M.Arch. and a BS.Arch. He has always been drawn to architecture and design since he was a child, and is unwavering in his desire to improve the built environment. Outside of the office, he remains engaged with the University of Maryland, regularly returning as an invited guest critic on undergraduate and graduate level design reviews. Rob is an adjunct professor at the George Washington University College of Arts and Design, where he is currently leading the introductory design studio. He was also part of a team of finalists in the recent Non-Architecture competition rethinking the role of monuments in society.
Wade McKinney, Assoc. AIA
Wade is an Associate and Senior Project Team Leader with over 35 years of design and construction experience. Working primarily in the Washington-Baltimore Metro area, Wade has had multifaceted roles on a wide variety of projects including single and multi-family residences, educational, recreational, and civic facilities, and corporate office buildings. In addition, Wade participates in the education and mentoring of the next generation of young architects. At the University of the District of Columbia, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Architecture, Wade is an invited studio critic. Wade also has a keen interest in urban design and the ways in which architecture enhances the urban fabric. He has travelled extensively to major urban areas throughout the US, Europe, and Africa.
