Bringing new life to a former industrial area within the Adams Morgan neighborhood, this 12-unit contemporary design pioneers the concept of urban loft living in the nation’s capital. The street facade signals the unconventionality of the residences through its collage of colorful masonry planes, steel and glass balconies, and aluminum-framed, double-height windows. Inside, concrete floors, soaring ceilings, exposed steel framing and floating wooden staircases reinforce its loft environment. The residences are organized around a unique sculptural central courtyard reached through a covered walkway. This shared space fosters the establishment of community and is animated by projecting bay windows and a glass-enclosed steel staircase.
